Exuberant Politics is a multi-site celebration of art, activism and political feeling from around the world.
The year-long Exuberant Politics project celebrates the intersection of art and activism in new forms of creative direct-action and organizing, and this juried exhibition reflects that spirit of enthusiasm and edge.
The show includes politically charged videos, computer games, prints, sculptures, paintings, murals and stories culled from nearly 400 entries received from every continent except Antarctica.
The jury, who call themselves “The Exubernauts,” is an ad-hoc collective of academics and students, local artists and musicians, lecturers and revolutionaries. Each shares a passion for causes utilizing techniques ranging  from loving-kindness to direct action.
The Exubernauts formed with the purpose of staging a series of political art events throughout Iowa City and Eastern Iowa in 2013-2014. Receiving support from the University of Iowa Museum of Art and dozens of university departments, as well as off-campus groups, the group has brought visiting artists, film screenings, and other happenings to Iowa City and Cedar Rapids under the banner of “Exuberant Politics.”
The entries came in the form of video, sound, performance, conceptual pieces, written texts and poetry, sculpture, video games, prints, paintings, plays, posters and more.

      Sad News +Postponed Activity

      A note from reclaiming roots regarding the postponement of the PS1 volunteer event tomorrow.

      \/\/\/\/\/\/

      Dear Volunteers,

      We are postponing tomorrow’s work day at Public Space One until Saturday, January 25th. Paul Schultz, the director of the Wesley Center, passed away unexpectedly last night and we feel it’s best to postpone this activity.

      If you are available we’d love to have your help on Saturday, January 25th.

      We hope to see you on the 25th instead. I’m sorry to report this sad news for any of you who knew Paul. He was a good man.

      Best,
      {roots crew}
